Prof. Em. Freddy Decreus (°1949) was affiliated with the Department of Classics at Ghent University for thirty years. He also founded the course Ritual Theatre for the Department of Theatre Studies and wrote about the bio-energetic functioning of the actor's body.
His recent monograph 'The Ritual Theatre of Theodoros Terzopoulos' (Routledge, 2019) developed this perspective in full, in terms of a gradual build-up of energy flowing through the actors' body & mind (the bodymind) — metaphorically rendered as the arrival and possession by Dionysus! His publications on Greek mythology also draw on theories from psychoanalysis, women's studies and psycho-energetics, placing the self-narrating human being at the centre of his research.
