Ghent, September 2026 — DeNode Foundation presents allesgut, the first solo exhibition at DeNode by Ghent-based artist Björn Wandels (b. 1979), accompanied on Friday 11 September by the launch of an artist's book of the same name, published by MER Books. The opening and book launch take place on Friday 11 September from 6 to 9 pm; the exhibition runs until 4 October 2026.
Can a book become an exhibition? With allesgut, Wandels presents a project in which book and exhibition are two forms of one autonomous artwork. The artist's book grew out of a long process of collecting, ordering and reordering images. Photography here is never simply a means of representation, but a way of questioning memory, perception and the position of the image itself.
For Wandels, images never stand alone. They refer to other images, memories, absences and possible new connections. The family album, the personal archive and the act of reframing have long been part of this investigation. What appears to preserve a moment is already the result of selection, displacement and editing.
The exhibition translates this logic into space. Rather than illustrating the book, it extends its way of thinking: sequences, repetitions and associations move beyond the page and are reconsidered through installation, scale and proximity. The book asks for time; the exhibition gives it room.
allesgut is a book and possibly an exhibition, insofar as it can be exhibited. — Björn Wandels
Björn Wandels (Ghent, 1979) works across a wide range of media in a hybrid practice. He paints photographs from the darkroom, photographs drawings and gives sound a cinematic form; through short videos and collage loops he builds installations in which poetry and typography also find a place. He studied photography for several years at KASK in Ghent. Following his vitrine projection at DeNode in 2024, allesgut is his first solo exhibition at DeNode Foundation.
The artist's book allesgut is published by MER Books (Luc Derycke) in coproduction with DeNode Foundation, in an edition of 400 copies. It is on sale for € 38 at the gallery and via denode.be. The exhibition scenography is by Anja Hellebaut.

DeNode Foundation is a Ghent-based non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting contemporary art — a platform for research, creation and dialogue. The foundation focuses on long-term projects and in-depth research, where the process is at least as important as the end result. DeNode is a vibrant ecosystem where exhibitions, residencies, public programmes and editorial projects come together, bridging the Ghent scene and the international art field.
