Robin Vermeersch

°1977 · visual artist

Robin Vermeersch works with various media. Sculptures, paintings, and drawings show us a kind of cellular world that is quite existential and can be experienced as cosmic.

The viewer can approach these images in different ways: one can see them as autonomous sculptures and paintings functioning individually, or view them in a larger context where each piece takes on a different meaning, together forming a disconcerting universe. Vermeersch’s work subtly references the reality around us, but is not a realistic depiction of it. It merely reminds us of the known world. It focuses on nuances and details. Vermeersch enlarges them, explores boundaries, and creates something entirely new. The recognizable is dismantled and reassembled, with a new whole emerging from the details. In this way, the artist creates another world in which the essence of the existing world is hidden. Robin Vermeersch lets his audience peek through a window from everyday reality into a new world. He lets you almost touch it, but not entirely.

Robin Vermeersch took part in the group exhibition (expo)nentieel at DeNode (2024–2025, curated by Hilde Van Canneyt).
