‘5 appels’ (5 apples) examines the dialogue between photography and drawing by surrounding a photographed apple with four simple sketches, applied with a UV pen in the darkroom. Photography, usually a medium of faithful representation, here becomes a means of spontaneous artistic intervention, while the simple sketches only become visible through the photographic process.
The work plays with the distinction between reproducibility and uniqueness: the photographic print, normally reproducible, becomes unique due to the hand-drawn sketches. Thus, ‘5 appels’ questions the characteristics of both media and invites reflection on how they enrich and challenge each other.
