“My practice mainly involves painting, although it arises from a very different process. I collect objects, words, images, and bring them together in a painting. Thus my paintings are, as it were, collages of memories and samples of visual entities. I paint forms and objects from my recent and distant past, drawing from small and large memories.
I borrow symbols from an ever-growing archive, gathered during travels or everyday life. Music is one of my main sources of inspiration. Tangible objects like tapes or record sleeves, along with visual fragments of these impressions, often return in my work through a sampling technique. Images and words are connected intuitively through the medium of painting. My paintings show a formal tension that is often subtly united with the emotional. The visual and the emotional continuously shift within the paintings, resulting in works that can be seen as both melancholic and detached.”
