Vadim Vosters’ paintings are essentially about the boundary of tangibility—light and darkness, the visible and the invisible. The works refer to 19th-century Symbolism, in which imagination, fantasy, and intuition were central and references were made to the subconscious and the inexplicable.
He creates an atmosphere of unease, doom, helplessness, lethargy, and decadence through his precise mastery of light emerging from darkness. From the menacing darkness arise invisibility and vagueness. In a masterful way, the light he portrays holds our gaze and makes us dream. There is no light without darkness. The use of artificial light, strong contrasts, dramatic effects, and painted interiors evoke the Baroque period.
Vadim Vosters took part in the group exhibition (expo)nentieel at DeNode (2024–2025, curator Hilde Van Canneyt).
