In the work seeing double, the artist plays with the eye contact between the two figures in the work as well as that of the viewer. What is being looked at falls outside the frame, and an invisible wall seems to appear between the two characters’ lines of sight. As a result, looking becomes ambiguous, and the question arises as to where our eyes truly meet—inside or outside the canvas? (J.C.)
