Caroline Baek came to painting by a long detour: for thirty years she worked as an interior architect, first independently, then at BBL and ING. Around 2014 she left that world behind to paint full-time. Ever since, she starts from a blank sheet — travelling in Mexico (Mexicaanse galerijen), along the Mekong in Laos, or by the sea, which has never let go of her.
Water, ink and paint are not a means for her but matter itself. "You are not a painter," a friend once told her, "you are paint" — the finest compliment she ever received, and an assignment that, by her own account, will keep her busy for a long time.
Her work was spotted at Artist Meeting in Knokke; in the autumn of 2024 she showed the exhibition VIER at DeNode.
