“I start with what is called ‘found footage,’ a collective term for existing images found on the internet, in books, or even on a family member’s camera roll. I collect these and print them en masse. Then I spread them around my studio, where I combine, manipulate, or destroy them.
This ensures I am never afraid of the ‘blank canvas.’ Like a brain full of memories, the image suffers from horror vacui, and like memories, some paintings are very clear, others blurred, barely distinguishable from a fever dream.”
Ralph Leeten took part in the group exhibition (expo)nentieel at DeNode (2024–2025, curator Hilde Van Canneyt).
