Gipi — Pierre Gillis — is a draughtsman. His drawing is fine, patient and narrative; in the duo exhibition Bij de Meesters at DeNode (2025, curator Damien Degrave) it stood opposite the explosive paintings of Mikhail Bezverkhny — two artists of the same birth year, one from Ghent, the other from Leningrad, who developed in completely different artistic directions in the post-war world.
The storyteller is never far away with Gipi: during the exhibition he guided visitors through the work himself.
