A diverse collection of visual material forms the starting point for Simon Verougstraete’s series of drawings, collages, paintings, and objects. Fragments from books, magazines, postcards, nature guides, or newspaper clippings are brought together in works that bear witness to an associative thought process branching out in various directions.
This results in an eclectic visual language, with great attention to detail; visual motifs are repeated and stacked. These motifs often refer to aspects of the broader art history and to elements of nature.
